“If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always be what you’ve always been.”
Kurtis Parks heard this phrase in a church at 12 years old, and since that moment it’s become a guiding value.
Growing up a pastor’s kid, Kurtis has been leading worship since the age of 13. After studying business and music at Virginia Tech, he turned his efforts to pursuing music. In 2005, after appearing on American Idol, Kurtis and his wife Sarah moved to Nashville, with the members of their pop/rock band The Season. After several years of chasing down stardom, Kurtis had a life-altering moment when his mentor asked him “Whose name are you here to make famous - yours, or God’s?”
In 2010, Kurtis and Sarah moved to Washington DC to become the Worship Director at National Community Church, a multi-site church led by Pastor and NY Times best-selling author Mark Batterson. There he led NCC Worship, the music team made up of over 150 singers and musicians, and they released 7 albums, with many songs being sung around the world in worship services.
In September 2016, Kurtis wrote Sound Check, a book on living out authentic worship, released with David C Cook. After writing the book, Kurtis had many opportunities to travel and speak. During long road trips and late night flights, Kurtis would spend time in prayer, asking the Holy Spirit why Nashville kept coming back to his heart. He heard that still small voice whisper to plant a church in the heart of Music City, rooted in relationship, discipleship and worship. That whisper soon turned into a shout, and Bridges Church was born, with a unique vision to teach the Gospel through music, fusing story and scripture with song.
Kurtis and Sarah, along with their two children, Norah and Moses, moved back to Nashville June 2017 to begin their new journey with Bridges.
